Australian organizations are facing management and leadership gaps and weaknesses that could be cause for concern, according to a new detailed study from the University of Melbourne’s Centre for Workplace Leadership.
The report found many organizations lack basic management fundamentals, such as performance monitoring, target setting and the appropriate use of incentives, which are necessary to improve performance and realize better employee outcomes.
Senior leaders also aren’t drawing on strategic advice to make key decisions. In the past, 60 percent rarely or never sought advice about future strategic options.
More than 40 percent of Australian workplaces aren’t meeting their performance targets for return on investment and profitability, and roughly a third underperform against their sales targets.
